18% of employers offer full pay during maternity leave, compared with 27% share in 1998, says survey, United States

Over 18% of employers offer full pay during maternity leave - a 27% decline in 1998 - according to a survey Thursday of the Families and Work Institute, a nonprofit research, published in the Wall Street Journal reports. The survey of 1092 employers revealed that, although the share of firms that increase partially paid maternity leave for young mothers from 60% in 1998 to 64% today, the share of the compensation depends on the situation, said about 13% to 19% over the same period.FWI has said that the cuts are probably on vacation because of the rising cost of employer health insurance benefits.
