Nereus Pharmaceuticals Initiates Clinical Trial of NPI-2358 cancer non-small cell lung After Encouraging Phase 1 Data
Nereus Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a pioneer in drug discovery, marine microbial sources, today announced it has begun enrollment in a Phase 1b study evaluating the vascular disrupting agent (VDA) NPI-2358 in combination with standard chemotherapy in patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study follows positive results in a phase 1 single agent clinical trials evaluating the safety, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics (PK / PD) and efficacy of NPI-2358 in various tumor types. The study is open label phase 1b increasing doses of NPI-2358, in combination with docetaxel in patients with NSCLC that has failed at least one chemotherapy. The existing preclinical and clinical data suggest that ADV can complement or synergistically with chemotherapeutic agents
and anti-angiogenesis agents due to the different targets and mechanisms of action.tumor necrosis without affecting normal vasculature, and has a direct effect of apoptosis in tumor cells. NPI-2358 in combination with chemotherapeutic agents in human xenograft models of NSCLC and other cancers was significantly more effective than either treatment alone. We are very pleased to have a leadership role in the clinical development of Nereus NPI-2358 for the treatment of metastatic non-small cell cancer of the lung.
we have seen, Michael Millward, MD, Professor of Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Council, said at the University of Western Australia Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth. Our clinical program for NPI-2358 in the promises of non-small cell lung cancer,
indicating a large market, where new connections could have a significant impact on the patient.M. Sethna, President and CEO, Nereus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. expects Upon successful completion of Phase 1b trial and determination of the recommended dosage for the combined agents Nereus in NPI-2358 in an international randomized phase 2 trials with 150 patients in 30 centers by the end of 2008. Nereus is also evaluating NPI-2358 Elimite delivery
